AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 5 (Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa states), has passed away.
On Sunday, he passed away at the teaching hospital in Benin, Edo State.
He was 58 years old at his death.
In a brief statement on Sunday, SP Ahmed Wakil, the police public relations officer for the Bauchi State Command, reported his death.
“Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raj’un,” read the declaration. I regret to inform you of the passing of A.I.G. Lawan Tanko Jimeta, but I do so in complete submission to the will of Almighty Allah.
AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta passed away this morning at the Teaching Hospital in Benin, Edo State, following a brief illness.
“To Allah, we belong, and to him, we’ll return—a truly Godly man’s departure.
“May the All-Merciful Allah pardon his transgressions and grant him Aljannatul Fiddausi.
May He grant the family the strength to endure the irreparable loss. Amin.
The deceased was brought into the world on 9th September 1964.
He was from Adamawa State’s Yola North LGA.
He obtained his degree in English Language from Maiduguri University in Borno State.
He obtained a master’s from the National Open University in peace and conflict studies.
AIG Zone 5 was handed over to Mr. Jimeta on January 13, 2022.
Prior to that, he worked for the Nigerian Police Force in a variety of positions, including those of Edo State Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Commissioner for Police, Personal Assistant to the AIG of Police, Department of Training and Development, FHQ Annex, Lagos State, and Chief of Training, Directorate on Peace-keeping, FHQ, Abuja.
He also served as the Nigerian Police’s Deputy Commissioner of Police for Operations, the Commissioner of Police for the Central Criminal Registry at FCIID in Abuja, and the Commissioner of Police for the Police Mobile Force at COMPOL MOPOL. He has held the position of police commissioner in the states of Edo and Bauchi.
He was also the Suleja Area Command’s Area Commander.
