Nigerian music star Ayra Starr recently achieved another significant milestone by winning the Best International Act award at the 2025 BET Awards.
The acclaimed artist emerged victorious in a highly competitive category featuring prominent names such as Rema (Nigeria), Tyla (South Africa), Black Sherif (Ghana), and Uncle Waffles (Swaziland).
The esteemed event took place on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the BET Awards.
The evening honored Black excellence in music, film, television, and sports. Hosted by comedian and actor Kevin Hart, this year’s gala attracted a star-studded lineup that included Tyler Perry, Keke Palmer, Jennifer Hudson, and Shaboozey.
Kendrick Lamar led the nominations with ten, achieving significant wins in four major categories, including Album of the Year, Best Male Hip Hop Artist, and Video of the Year for his hit song Not Like Us.
Emerging rap artist Doechii also had a remarkable night, winning her first-ever BET Awards for Best Female Hip Hop Artist and Best Collaboration for her single ALTER EGO featuring JT. Fellow nominee GloRilla also took home her inaugural BET trophy, winning the Viewer’s Choice Award for TGIF.
The 2025 BET Awards featured exhilarating performances from artists like Lil Wayne, Ledisi, Teyana Taylor, Playboi Carti, Mya, Keyshia Cole, and B2K, along with a nostalgic tribute to 106 & Park. Notable honorees for the Ultimate Icon Award included Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, and Kirk Franklin.
With this latest international recognition, Ayra Starr furthers her reputation as one of the prominent voices of Afrobeats on the world stage, proudly representing Nigeria at one of the most significant nights in Black entertainment.
