Deebo Samuel, was a student of South Carolina‘s Chapman High School. He played high school football there under Mark Hodge’s coaching. As his senior squad reached to the AAA playoff semifinals, he served as its captain.
Samuel Deebo completed his career with 166 receptions for 2,751 yards and 36 touchdowns in addition to 133 rushing attempts for 898 yards and 13 scores. He finished with 53 touchdowns, 94 tackles, and 12 interceptions at the end of his career.
He was chosen by High School Sports Report as the Class AAA Offensive Player of the Year, and he later took part in the Carolinas Shrine Bowl.
Samuel was rated as a three-star recruit by the 247 composite. His verbal agreement to play college football for the University of South Carolina has been confirmed.
He returned the opening kickoff of the 2017 season’s first game, which was played against NC State, for a touchdown. He also had five receptions for 83 yards and two scores. Against Missouri in Week 2, Samuel finished the game with five receptions for 45 yards, two rushing attempts for 30 yards, and a touchdown. He added another touchdown by successfully returning a kickoff.
On the opening play from scrimmage of South Carolina’s game against Kentucky in Week 3, Samuel caught a touchdown throw from Gamecock quarterback Jake Bentley that traveled 68 yards.
Before suffering an injury that would end his season later in the game, Samuel would conclude the season having not even played three whole games and having gathered 250 yards receiving for three scores, two carries for 30 yards, and a touchdown. The injury would cause Samuel’s season to end early.
