By way of an official Facebook post, Natasha Fyles, the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory of Australia and the Member for Nightcliff, announced the sad news of the demise of beloved mayor Fay Miller.
It reads:
‘Fay Miller was a pioneering Territory woman. She paved the road for many people while also standing up for her neighborhood. She is highly respected and loved by me. We collaborated with Fay on community projects for Katherine while she was mayor. She consistently stood up for her neighborhood and was positive at all times. The Northern Territory Government offers its condolences and respects to the Fays family. May she rest in peace forever.’

Fay Miller, a former mayor of Katherine, lost her fight with leukemia.
As soon as the Administrator learned about Ms. Christina Fay Miller AM’s passing, she issued the following statement.
Fay Miller lost her battle with cancer, and Ruth and I are horrified to hear this news. Fay devoted more than 30 years of her life to serving her community as a business owner, civic leader, politician, alderman, mayor, and devout member of the neighborhood. She had a strong commitment to the Katherine Area.
“In 2021, Fay received a Member of the Order of Australia award in honor of her outstanding service to the Territory, which includes significant contributions to the town of Katherine, local government, and tourism. We won’t forget about Fay’s contributions. Our sympathies are with her husband Dennis and their bigger family during this difficult time.”
Who was Fay Miller?
On April 8, 1947, Christina Fay Miller AM was born in South Australia, where she lived until 1989 when she moved to Katherine. Before Fay entered politics in 2003 and won a by-election to the NT Legislative Assembly, she and her husband purchased Red Gum Tourist Park. She served on the front bench and was the CLP deputy leader for a short time.
Due to the severe injuries she sustained in a car accident in 2006, she left the Legislature in 2008. Fay continued to want to serve her town and was elected mayor of Katherine in March 2012. She held that position until November 2020.
Fay, a Katherine resident, overcame a flood, a car accident that broke her neck, and the loss of her husband, but her toughest battle was with the fatal bone marrow condition myelofibrosis.
In the 2021 Australia Day Honours, Miller was given membership in the Order of Australia for his “significant contributions to Katherine’s local government, tourism, and community.”
