Francis Wangusi had finished his second and final four-year term as DG as of August 21st, 2019.
Following numerous boardroom fights and unsuccessful attempts to have him removed as the regulator’s head, he still hadn’t turned himself in four months later.
He and his boss got into a confrontation when he turned down Mucheru’s plea to aid law enforcement in their battle against cybercrime.
The argument originated from the government’s plan to use the Sh23 billion in cash that was sitting in the agency’s numerous bank accounts.
He subsequently received an involuntary leave of absence, but not before fighting back in court and reaching an out-of-court agreement with CA.
A deal permitted him to serve out the remainder of his term after California lost several court battles to have him removed from office.
Career
In the areas of information technology, communications technology, and technology in general, Francis Wangusi has more than 20 years of experience.
He started working for the CA in 2000 as an assistant director, and in 2012, after rising through the ranks, he was given the position of ultimate supervisor.
Also, he served as a senior lecturer at the Multimedia University of Kenya, which is now known as the Kenya College for Communications Technology (KCCT), which was known by its previous name at the time.
After Wangusi’s contentious resignation from the Communications Authority of Kenya, Mercy Wanjau, who was then the director of legal services and is now the cabinet secretary, was named the director-general in an acting capacity. This resulted in boardroom tussles during his final days of employment at the Telecommunication Authority of Kenya.
Cause Of Death
On Wednesday in the Nairobi Hospital, where he had been getting care for some time before his death, Francis Wangusi passed away.
A request for blood donations was made to the general public towards to the end of January.
